Recently, Google has enhanced Chat with more advanced text formatting options. Chats in Google Messenger can be italicized, bolded, underlined, lists or strikethroughs for easier communication, just like on many other platforms.
To modify an excerpt, simply select the button stamped with an underlined “A” next to the emoji shortcut. Below the text field, the formatting options appear, so just select the part you want to change and that’s it.
This is by no means a new feature of Google Chat — practically every text editor or messenger has something similar. WhatsApp, Slack, Discord are examples of platforms that have had this functionality for a long time — some, however, with slightly different implementations.

As always, the novelty is gradually distributed among Google users and it is not necessary to do anything to receive it. The update can take up to 15 days to reach everyone, and considering Google released it last week, it’s likely that it’s already available for most accounts.
