Even though Wi-Fi 6E is still a very recent reality, MediaTek is already working on the development of components with support for Wi-Fi 7, according to what was disclosed by the company itself. With this, devices that bring platforms compatible with the new connectivity standard could be made available as early as next year, according to the latest estimates.
Wi-Fi 7 is expected to allow the use of channels in the 320 MHz range and 4K quadrature amplitude modulation technology, as well as a multi-user resource unit (MRU) to reduce the level of signal disturbances. In practice, the technology is expected to bring a speed gain of up to 2.4x compared to Wi-Fi 6, but interference from other networks can cause the result to be slightly below this level.
MediaTek’s connectivity manager Alan Hsu also confirmed ambitious plans for Wi-Fi 7: according to him, it will be the first time that fixed connectivity (i.e. by Ethernet cables, for example) can be replaced in a comparable way by wireless, with high data rates for streaming content in up to 8K, or even cloud gaming with greater stability and lower latency.

Even though the Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) standard represents an improvement over Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax), it must utilize the same 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands that are currently supported. .
With the statement, MediaTek appears as one of the first companies to even mention Wi-Fi 7 in an official way – the brand still claims that it has worked with the standard since the beginning of its development. Intel has also made nods to the new technology through its CTO in the area of wireless connectivity, Dr. Carlos Cordeiro — he pointed out last year that “it will be possible to use higher capacities, bring support to 7 GHz and even low for IoT devices and other sensors that require less bandwidth”.
According to the brand, the first two prototypes of the technology have been distributed to “key consumers and industry collaborators”, but cannot yet be accessed openly. Even though the brand’s initial forecast includes products with support for Wi-Fi 7 as early as 2023, the popularization of networks with the new standard should only happen from 2024 onwards.
