Inkay is the curious type Pokémon dark and Psychic which debuted in the sixth generation of the franchise with a curious mechanics of evolution. In traditional games, to transform Inkay into the evolved form Malamar, the player needs to reach level 30 with the little monster while holding the console (Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo Switch) upside down. The creative mechanic, which earned Inkay the nickname “Pokémon Rollover”, was transported to Pokemon GO.
To evolve Inkay in the Niantic game, the trainer needs to accumulate 50 candies and turn the phone upside down. After a few moments in this position, the game will recognize the mechanics and release the evolution from Inkay to Malamar.
Inkay debuted in Pokemon GO in September 2021, during the Psychic Show event. The little monster can be found in the wild and eventually in one-star raids. It has a base capture rate of 20% and a 10% chance to evade the trainer in-game.
