Shazam launches extension for Chrome to identify songs in the browser –

The Shazam app this week launched an extension that identifies the song playing in the browser. The tool would be especially useful to search for tracks that play in live broadcasts and in movie or advertisement soundtracks, without having to put the microphone to record the audio coming out of the speaker.

The Shazam Chrome extension works similarly to the mobile app: just click on the Shazam icon and wait for the song to be identified. The process doesn’t take long, and since the service is part of Apple, links are provided to listen to the track on Apple Music (available exclusively to subscribers).

All songs identified by the extension are saved in a history, preventing them from being lost by accident. From the add-on, you can also check the lyrics and cover of the album in question, if available.

Shazam for browser

So far, the Shazam add-on doesn’t allow you to login or sync with your Shazam account, but the tool works normally on YouTube, Twitch, SoundCloud, and even Wikipedia.

The extension was even removed from the Chrome Web Store yesterday, but a search made by Kenyannews this Tuesday (11) shows that it is available for download again. If you’re interested in what’s new, you can download it from the Google add-on store. The tool must be compatible with every browser built on top of Chromium that supports extensions.
