Sony revealed more details about the PlayStation VR2 on Tuesday night (4), during CES 2022, in Las Vegas, USA. The second generation virtual reality device will be compatible with the PlayStation 5 and will feature a 4K resolution OLED screen with HDR, 110-degree field of view and new sensor features that accurately track the player. The company did not reveal the official design of the device, nor a release forecast.
The name of the new PS VR2 controller, which will be called PlayStation VR2 Sense, was also confirmed. It’s not just the name that was inspired by the PS5 controller, DualSense: it will bring the same haptic feedback features and adaptive triggers.
The PS VR2’s display will be OLED with 4K resolution — against 1080p on the first PS VR — and support for HDR (High Dynamic Range, in English, which balances different contrasts in the same image and makes everything more beautiful). There will be 2000×2040 pixels per eye, with resolution rates between 90 to 120Hz and a field of view of 110 degrees.

The device will track the user’s movement with four cameras and an infrared sensor built into the headset — meaning the PS VR2 will not require the use of a PlayStation Camera. The technology will even be able to track eye movements. “A simple look in a specific direction can create an additional command to the game character”, says the company.
Sony is betting big on the PS VR2’s sensory technology, which will allow for a “greater sense of presence, allowing gamers to escape into game worlds like never before.” In a PlayStation Blog post, the company cites a specific example:
“For example, players may feel a character’s elevated pulse during moments of tension, the movement of objects passing close to the character’s head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character accelerates.”
Another interesting detail is that the accessory will no longer come with an external camera, as happens in the current generation on sale. To set it up, you just need to connect a PS VR2 USB Type C directly to the PS5.
