Apple M1 would have helped Safari reduce distance to Google Chrome –

The success of Apple’s M1 chips goes beyond device hardware: the Safari browser may have increased its market share thanks to it. Data from the company Statcounter reveal that the Apple program is responsible for 19.6% of internet users in the world, which represents a growth of 1.2% in just three months.

This increase would have started since the first MacBooks with M1 were released in 2020, followed by other devices equipped with the M1 Max and M1 Ultra in October 2021. In addition to being positively received by critics, the component was approved by consumers and appointed as a fundamental part in the performance of these devices.

Safari comes pre-installed on all Apple devices — iPads, iPhones, and Macs — and many users use it for sheer convenience, rather than looking for Chrome or another alternative. Even so, growth in the last quarter would have been around 58 million new users, which is really significant in such a tight market.

Today, the Cupertino giant’s program occupies the second position in the ranking of browsers, ahead of traditional solutions such as Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox. Although it is still far from Google Chrome’s 64% market share, the notorious growth supposedly linked to the M1 chip is already drawing the attention of analysts.

Safari pegged to Apple devices

Although there is no direct link between the new hardware and the use of Safari, the fact that the chip increases purchases of Apple devices is already enough to reveal how a hit can trigger positive and even unexpected developments. Developers know this and have already invested in new security and privacy features, which arrived in iOS 15 and are expected to be enhanced in successors.

Safari itself was subject to changes such as a redesign in the layout, more fluid reproduction of websites and additional tools to make the user more protected from threats.

Another fact that may have helped to leverage the program is the greater acceptance of Macs in business environments, previously totally dominated by Windows PCs. The company is preparing a device subscription model whereby companies will be able to rent MacBooks for as little as US$30 per month in the United States, much more modest value than investing in 100% new equipment that will become outdated over time.
