Attention: this article contains spoilers of the events of the third season of You!
Ever since we found out that Love (Victoria Pedretti) is as psychopathic as Joe (Penn Badgley), possibly the biggest twist of the entire series, we’ve known the relationship between the characters in season three of You it would be complicated.
With the release of the episodes, then, we found out that one of the two would have to die not to get in the way of the other’s plans. Therefore, the latest season of the series ended with Joe killing his “beloved” and forging a suicide and murder himself, fleeing under a new identity. This, however, may not have been Love’s definitive ending in the original Netflix series.

By the end of season three, it’s possible to pick up some signs that Love hasn’t actually died. We don’t see the character’s body burning inside the house, nor a funeral, for example. She may have even survived because she got to know better the aconite, a plant that causes paralysis and which she cultivated in the garden. Just as Joe took an antidote to ease the effects of the poisonous plant and get away with it, something similar may have been done for her.
You is based on a series of books by Caroline Kepnes and in the publication you love me, a few different things from the season three finale happen. In the book, the couple are far apart at the request of Love’s family, but they are reunited and she shoots Joe and then kills herself, but he survives. So, there could still be a meeting of the two characters before the real end for Love.
If Love returns, it won’t be the first time the show has hinted that a character has died. In season one, we find out that Candace (Ambyr Childers) was kidnapped, beaten in the head, buried by Joe, and left for dead. However, she eventually returns, more alive than ever, before actually dying at Love’s hands.
These are all just theories and speculation, and there is no official information that Love will return for season four of You. The premiere of new episodes should happen in 2022 on Netflix.
