Retooling Ghana’s security agencies non-negotiable

Richard Kumadoe, a security analyst, has stated that retooling Ghana’s security agencies is essential and non-negotiable.

His comments come amid criticisms from the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, Samuel A. Jinapor, who questioned the government’s allocation of GH¢13.1 billion for four helicopters and two presidential jets while many public sector workers reportedly remain unpaid. Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has also raised concerns, noting that similar proposals were opposed when his party was in power.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue with Selorm Adonoo on Saturday, November 22, Kumadoe argued that investing in security equipment should not be debated, as it directly enhances the operations of the military and other security agencies, particularly for missions and emergency responses.

“For me, whatever we will use and wherever we will find the money, and when the economy is doing well, in particular to retool the military and other security agencies, is the best way to go. If all the security agences are retooled, we will not be having this discussion,” he said.

His remarks highlight the ongoing debate over fiscal priorities and the balance between national security needs and public sector welfare.
