Police allegedly gun down illegal miner, three injured

A clash between police personnel and illegal miners at Bepotenten in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region has resulted in the death of one person and left three others with gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred on Saturday, January 24, 2026, during a routine police patrol.

According to reports, the police team seized a firearm belonging to the illegal mining group, which led to a confrontation.

The situation escalated, and shots were fired, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.

The Amansie Central District Security Council (DISEC) has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Residents are calling for justice, and tensions remain high in the community.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
