Basketball promoter and the visionary behind the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Mr. Igoche Mark, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its renewed focus on sports development.

Mark in a statement released yesterday noted that Nigeria’s sporting landscape is undergoing a significant and positive transformation, a shift that has not gone unnoticed by stakeholders.

“It is truly refreshing to see the significant transformation occurring within Nigeria’s sports landscape under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” Mark stated. “I was particularly pleased to read the President’s tweets a few weeks ago, acknowledging the crucial role of sports and his commitment to prioritising its development through increased budgetary allocations and the timely release of funds.”

He specifically commended the President’s “Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE),” an initiative designed to leverage sports as a catalyst for job creation, tourism, investment, and enhancing Nigeria’s global standing.

“The government has pinpointed key areas for growth, including the refurbishment of infrastructure, fostering grassroots engagement, and the development of elite athletes,” Mark observed. “The National Sports Commission (NSC) is actively working to advance sports development, with initiatives such as the rehabilitation of essential facilities and the scientific development of our top athletes.”

Mark further disclosed that he personally penned a letter to the President on 10th February 2026, expressing his appreciation for these efforts. “I immediately wrote personally to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 10th February 2026, thanking him and urging him to maintain this positive trajectory,” Mark confirmed.

He also called upon corporate entities to seize the burgeoning opportunities within Nigeria’s sports industry, highlighting national teams like the Super Eagles and Super Falcons as highly valuable brands for investment.

“The Super Eagles, the Super Falcons, The D’ Tigers, D’Tigress, the Yellow Green, and other major national teams across our various sports are substantial brands that corporate entities should consider sponsoring,” he explained. “These brands ought to be self-sustaining, thereby freeing up logistical resources for grassroots sports development.”

Mark concluded with optimism, believing that with the government’s unwavering commitment to sports development and increased private sector investment, Nigeria’s sports industry is poised for exponential growth. ”

As Nigeria’s sports evolution gathers pace, the private sector has a vital role to play in unlocking the sector’s full potential; only then can Nigerian sports truly achieve geometric progression,” he affirmed.
