Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew says he’s focused on easing pressure on the squad and ensuring Ghana leave no regrets when they face England in Tuesday’s World Cup Group L decider at Gillette Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the clash with both teams on three points, Ayew said his role is to shield the younger players and demand accountability from everyone — including himself.

“I’m doing my best to guide the boys and to make them feel as comfortable as they can. To take off the pressure off them and to do my best for us to perform on the pitch,” Ayew said.

“That’s all I do. I’m being myself and I have to perform as well. They have to perform as well. It’s teamwork. We’re helping each other to perform.”

Ghana enter the game after a 1-0 opening win over Panama in Toronto, with England beating Croatia 4-2. Ayew made clear what he expects from the group in Foxborough.

“That we’re going to give our 100% and that we’re going to fight,” the captain said. “I will make sure that when we come out of this game, we’ll have no regrets.”

The winner of Tuesday’s match at Gillette Stadium takes control of Group L. Kickoff is 4:00 PM ET
