Africa World Airlines (AWA) has donated 60,000 Ghana cedis to the Breast Cancer Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in a bid to support breast cancer patients.
The initiative, inspired by the airline’s experience of losing a staff member to breast cancer, has now become an annual event, reflecting the airline’s strong commitment to supporting individuals living with cancer.
Expressing gratitude for the donation, General Surgeon at the Breast Cancer Unit, Dr. Josephine Nsaful, noted that the support is timely and will go a long way toward covering treatment costs for patients who cannot afford care.
“We are most grateful for this donation. And the purpose of it is to support our breast cancer patients in treatment. It’s a very timely donation. And it’s going to go a long way to support those who cannot afford the treatment. A lot of the treatment, indeed, is covered by NHIS, but there are some parts of it where we need to pay out of pocket. So this is a timely donation.
She added, “And it will be put to good use. Patients will benefit immensely from this. So on behalf of the Breast Surgery Unit and the Carnegie Teaching Hospital, we are most grateful to AWA for presenting us with these funds.”

Head of Brands and Corporate Communications for Africa World Airlines, Godfred Essel, also emphasised that the donation forms part of the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility and its commitment to promoting the well-being of Ghanaians.

“African World Airlines does not only believe in making profits, but we also believe in corporate social responsibility. And that is why we deem it important to come and make this donation to the breast cancer unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
“We believe in society as a whole, and we believe in the well-being of Ghanaians. So we say thank you to our passengers, thank you to the staff of African World Airlines and thank you to management,” he said.
