Arsenal eye shock swoop for Chelsea’s Jorginho as Brighton remain firm in Moises Caicedo talks

Arsenal’s No1 target is Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, but the Seagulls insist he is not for sale this month.

The Gunners have had two bids rejected, with the second of those worth £65million plus £5m in add-ons.

Jorginho has emerged as an alternative given he is into the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old is open to staying at Chelsea and has held contract negotiations with the club earlier this season.

Jorginho has always prioritised staying at Stamford Bridge and has asked for a slight increase in wages, from £120,000-a-week to £150,000-a-week.

The 31-year-old knocked back an initial proposal from Chelsea earlier this season, but remains in open dialogue with senior Blues officials amid interest in him from Napoli and Barcelona.

Should Jorginho leave, Napoli have been leading the race to sign the Italy international because Barcelona manager Xavi has requested the signing of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi instead.

It has previously been thought Jorginho’s preference would be a return to Italy if he leaves Chelsea, but it remains to be seen if Arsenal’s emergence on the scene changes that.
