Arsenal consider fresh Moises Caicedo bid as midfielder misses Brighton training

Caicedo has been told to stay away from Brighton training until the end of the transfer window amid speculation around his future.

Brighton rejected a £60million offer from Arsenal on Friday and Caicedo responded with a message on his Instagram account in which he asked Brighton to let him join the Gunners.

Brighton insist Caicedo is not for sale and have told the 21-year-old to stay away from the club until next week.

It means Caicedo will miss Brighton’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool on Sunday.

Arsenal want to sign a central midfielder this month and have identified Caicedo as a top target.

After seeing their opening bid for Caicedo rejected, the Gunners are exploring a new offer before the window closes.

Chelsea have also shown interest in Caicedo and had a £55m offer rejected earlier this month.

Caicedo said on Instagram on Friday evening: “I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

“I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream has always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

“I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”

Speaking after Arsenal lost 1-0 to Manchester City on Friday night, Mikel Arteta said: “We have some necessities and if something else is available, the club is willing to try to do it when it is reasonable and hopefully it’s a player that can improve our squad.”
