Current WTA No. 56 Daria Saville – formerly Daria Gavrilova – has given her sincere opinion on Novak Djokovic’s left hamstring injury. In the last two weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Nole’s form and there were even fears that he would miss the Australian Open for the second year in a row.

The Australian player wanted to defend the former ATP number 1: “Playing with a physical problem or with chronic pain is not exactly an injury. An injury is something that causes you so much pain that it prevents you from competing.

I know damn well” – wrote Daria on Twitter. “Novak is a machine and he’s probably able to handle more pain than most of us. Plus, he and his team spend hours and hours every day trying to dull the pain,” she added.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion was injured during the Adelaide tournament, won by beating the young American Sebastian Korda in the final. Novak’s conditions are clearly improving compared to the beginning of the AO, as demonstrated by the clear affirmation of the local darling Alex de Minaur in the round of 16.

Novak Djokovic, who has dropped just one set in four rounds at the Melbourne Major, is happy with the level of tennis he is able to produce. “Well I dont know ever, but definitely best tennis I have played this year in this tournament , so far this season , best match (against De Minaur),” he said.

“Tonight (against De Minaur) I didnt feel any pain and moved as well as I have the whole tournament, it means we are progressing in the right direction,” the Serb said on his current form. In his interview with Eurosport afterwards, Djokovic was pleased with his performance against De Minaur, telling Barbara Schett that it was close to ‘perfection’: “It was close to.

Not much to say about my performance. It was flawless really. From the beginning, I was locked in. Felt great with my leg today, the best that I felt all tournament. I just felt free to move around. I knew exactly what was expected of me on the court.

Crowd and atmosphere, and De Minaur, whom I’ve never faced before, what kind of a gameplan needs to be. I had to stay aggressive and take the time away from him. He’s one of the quickest players on tour. From the beginning to the last point, felt great.

I played well. I’m very happy. I always have faith in myself and my abilities. I know that I can win when I play like that.”
