By Allan Fox: Deontay Wilder says Andy Ruiz Jr doesn’t possess enough elements to his game to defeat him when they fight in a WBC heavyweight title eliminator in their still-being-negotiated clash.
Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs), who is coming off a big first round knockout win over Robert Helenius, maintains that the former unified heavyweight champion Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) will need an “extra recipe” for him to have a shot at defeating him.
Wilder & Ruiz will be fighting for the chance to become the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Tyson Fury. That’s a fight that Wilder will need to force because he’s already been knocked out twice by Fury, and he’s not going to be given a fourth shot against him without going through the mandatory route.
“Andy is a good fighter. I like his speed, his willingness, and his bravery, but it’s not going to be enough for me, though,” said Deontay Wilder to ESNEWS about Andy Ruiz Jr not having enough in his game to beat him.
“He’s going to have to put an extra recipe on top of everything I named; he’s going to have to put some more on it because I am the man, I am that man. That’s why they fear me. Do you understand? With me, you’re going to need extra help, and I’m not just talking about you by yourself.
“Get that extra help. Y’all believe in that because that ain’t going to go nowhere in this sport. We can stop paying these drug people, VADAs. We can stop paying that. This steroid stuff ain’t going nowhere in this business because why do they get on steroids? Because of the fear. That’s fear,” said Wilder.
“If you wasn’t scared like me, you ain’t got to. They’re on this [PEDs] because they’re insecure, and they’re scared, bro, and that’s just it,” Deontay said. F**k talking about feeding your family because if you’re a man and you know what you got, you’re going to feed your family.
“I’m going to say I’m going to knock you out and I’m going to show you I can do it with just myself. I don’t need no help. I don’t have to have any tampered gloves. I don’t have to have anything in my a** or go down my throat. I ain’t got to do all that s**t,” said Deontay.
