Roy Keane compares Eddie Nketiah to Arsenal legend Ian Wright after brace vs Man Utd

Roy Keane was full of praise for Eddie Nketiah after the striker bagged a brace to down Manchester United – and even likened the Arsenal man to Gunners legend Ian Wright.

After spending the majority of the season playing second fiddle to Gabriel Jesus, Nketiah has stepped up to lead the line for the Gunners over the past few weeks. And the Hale End graduate produced a magnificent performance in the 3-2 win over United to keep Arsenal’s unlikely title bid on track.

The 23-year-old ghosted in to restore parity after Marcus Rashford had fired United into an early lead and was on hand again in the dying moments of the game to flick beyond David de Gea to seal a crucial win for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Nketiah’s double means the youngster is now the Gunners’ top scorer with nine goals in all competitions. And Keane sees similarities between Nketiah and Wright, who plundered 185 goals during his Arsenal career.

Speaking after the match, Keane told Sky Sports: “He [Nketiah] reminds me in his movement and even his interviews – and I’m gonna put him under huge pressure here – of Ian Wright. Like he used to do, not getting many touches but that sharpness in the box, which we see as well for the winning goal. If you’re hanging around the box and you’re a sharp striker, you’ll get your chances and your goals.”

Sunday’s win means the Gunners still have a five-point cushion over Manchester City, who have played a game more than Arteta’s side, at the summit of the Premier League.

Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas was analysing the game at the Emirates Stadium and believes that the victory over United could help define the Gunners’ season as they bid to win their first domestic crown since the 2003/04 ‘Invincibles’ campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the Spaniard said: “It was a great, great victory, the way it happened. We were talking before the game about there being games that define seasons, it’s still a long way to go, you speak to Mikel and for sure he will tell you that, but as a player sometimes you cannot really explain it in words but you can feel that something special is happening. You can feel it together and you can feel the Emirates booming.

“The passion that this team shows week-in week-out, we were just talking about can they come back from difficult moments – today showed us that they can, it was top, top mentality from them and will give them a push for the rest of the season on a high.”
