Jesse Marsch Leeds comments questioned

BBC Pundit Chris Sutton has questioned the post-match comments made by Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch after his team’s recent draw.

What’s the word?

The Whites were held to a draw at Elland Road over the weekend in a well-fought 0-0 draw against Premier League rivals Brentford.

Marsch and so will no doubt be relieved to pick up a point as they push to lift themselves out of a potential relegation scrap but obviously a win would have been much better.

Despite, the lack of three points, Marsch seemed fairly content after the game and told the press (via LeedsLive): “A strong performance from a lot individuals, so a big positive for me, a big positive.”

However, while talking after the game on the BBC phone-in radio show 606, Sutton seemed to be less positive about it all and questioned the club manager.

Indeed, he said: “Just interesting, listening to Jesse Marsch’s interview after the Brentford game. I thought Leeds played very well.

“Jesse Marsch said it was a complete performance. But it wasn’t a complete performance, Jesse. I mean your team in the final third, they really lacked.

“Leeds fans, I mean, where are you on the manager? Look, I think he’s done a pretty okay job, but are you in a real relegation battle? Do you think that this Leeds team is good enough to stay up?”

Will Jesse Marsch still be in charge this time next year?

Feeling confident?

Sutton certainly seems to have his doubts about the American and this recent draw with Brentford certainly shows there is room for improvement.

Indeed, as per InfoGol, the Whites finished the game with a lowly xG (expected goals) of just 0.40 – which backs up Sutton’s claims about a lack of quality in the final third. However, at least the defence was pretty good on the days as Brentford registered an xG of just 0.25.

In fairness to Marsch, he did also admit after the game that his players were disappointed with the result and he knows there is more to do to improve.

As things stand, the club are without a win in the league since November and just one point keeps them from the bottom three. Things certainly aren’t looking great right now for Leeds, but perhaps it’s best for the manager to take the positive from every game instead of focusing too much on the negatives.
