Glover Teixeira faced Jamahal Hill for the vacant light heavyweight title in the main-event at UFC 283. Hill outclassed Teixeira over the course of five-rounds to earn an emphatic decision win that made him the first DWCS graduate to be crowned a champion.

Teixeira put on an incredible display of chin in going the distance of five rounds against Hill despite his vision seemingly being compromised by pools of blood from brutal gashes on his eyebrows.

The 43-year-old hung up his gloves in the immediate aftermath of his loss in front of his home fans in Brazil. Texeira admitted that he is perhaps too tough for his own good considering his age.

The former light heavyweight champ was also happy to retire on the same night as fellow veteran Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. Teixeira said in his post-fight octagon interview via a translator:

“In reality I think I’m too tough for my own good. Too tough for my own health. You know, I can’t keep up anymore… It’s an honor to put the gloves down on the same night as Shogun. I wish we were in the Royce Gracie era where we could just go no rounds and keep going in this s**t. But I’m just not keeping up anymore.”

The winner of the co-main event, newly crowned flyweight champ Brandon Moreno was heavily bottled by Brazilian fans after he defeated the local Deiveson Figueiredo. Teixeira urged fans not to subject Hill to the same treatment, even offering to walk back with ‘Sweet Dreams’.

Glover Teixeira will focus his energy on Alex Pereira

Glover Teixeira’s camaraderie with UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira is well-known to fans. Teixeira is even considered to be instrumental in Pereira’s UFC 281 title win over Israel Adesanya.

Teixeira now plans to direct all his resources towards Pereira, who he expects to stay on top for a while. The 43-year-old also claimed that ‘Poatan’ is likely to move up to light-heavyweight in the future. The former light heavyweight champ said:

“I’m gonna focus my energy on Alex Pereira, ‘Poatan’. He’s gonna keep his belt for a while then go up to light heavyweight.”

Imagine if Alex Pereira moves up to 205 to avenge Glover Teixeira 🤔 #UFC283
