Gervonta Davis Already Training For Ryan Garcia Fight On April 15th

By Craig Daly: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is already started training a week after his last fight, getting ready for his mega-clash against Ryan Garcia on April 15th on Showtime PPV.

Tank (28-0, 26 KOs) isn’t taking chances that he’ll lose to the hard-hitting Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) because this is easily the biggest fight of his career.

If Tank, 28, isn’t dialed in for this bout,  he could get blown out early like many of Ryan’s opponents, who could not handle his powerful left hook.

Gervonta stopped the tough, previously unbeaten Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs) in the ninth round last Saturday night on Showtime pay-per-view at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Hector decided he couldn’t continue due to vision problems after getting hurt in the eighth round. Some boxing fans feel that Hector wasn’t hurt and chose to quit because he didn’t wish to continue taking punishment.

Tank Davis might be too much for the 24-year-old Ryan, who hasn’t fought anyone notable during his career that would indicate that the’s going to be able to hang. Boxing fans hope this is a competitive fight, but it might not be.

It would have been better if Ryan had tested himself against one of the A-level contenders like Frank Martin, Shakur Stevenson, or Vasyl Lomachenko before taking this fight with Gervonta. At least if Ryan had done that, we’d know:

A. he’s been tested.

B. less chance of Ryan falling apart early.

C. Fans would see a real fight.

Ryan Garcia thinks Tank wanted him to back out

“I think they were trying to give me ways to say, ‘F this, I’m not going through all this,’ especially with the weight, with the changing of dates, trying to prolong my inactivity,” Ryan Garcia said to the MMA Hour about Gervonta Davis.

“All this stuff, it’s just a game, saying I’m on steroids; I see all the tricks. But they don’t know who they’re messing with. My mentality is strong, whether they believe it or not,” said Ryan.

Gervonta’s rationale for taking the fight against Hector Luis Garcia likely had nothing to do with him trying to scare Ryan away from fighting him. He wanted to take a tune-up, and he wasn’t afraid to face a good opponent, unlike Ryan, who chose not to.

“I was like, ‘Man, this is kind of risky.’ It’s not that he could lose,” said Ryan about his fear of Tank Davis getting injured in his last fight against Hector.
