Bob Arum Says Tyson Fury Vs. Anthony Joshua Still A “massive Fight Down The Road”

By Charles Brun: Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum still has hopes of making a fight between Tyson and Anthony Joshua down the road if everything goes well for the Gyspy King in 2023 in an undisputed clash against IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Arum didn’t say whether he would put a clamp on Fury’s mouth to control what he says during the negotiations with Joshua. If Fury starts with the deadlines again, you can be assured that the Joshua fight won’t happen.

The way that Fury sabotaged the Joshua negotiations recently suggests that he wasn’t serious about fighting him. What was telling is that Fury didn’t give the played-out 38-year-old Derek Chisora the same deadlines during their negotiations for a December 3rd fight.

“Tyson was teed off because he offered Joshua the fight for the end of this year, the one that Chisora took, and Joshua agreed and then pulled out,” Fury’s promoter Bob Arum said to Sky Sports about the Joshua fight failing to happen.

“So Tyson is really [upset] at Joshua and says he won’t fight him. But let’s see. Joshua and Fury down the road could be a massive fight in the UK. We’ll have to see,” said Arum about his future plans for Fury if he gets past Usyk in early 2023.

For a fight between Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) and Fury to be worth anything, AJ will need to end his two-fight losing streak and turn things around.

Right now, Joshua looks like a shot fighter who is no longer capable of beating the top-five competition.

If Joshua keeps losing the way he’s been, a fight between him and Fury will only hold interest for British boxing fans because people outside the UK won’t be interested in this match-up.

It’ll be too similar to Fury’s recent two fights against British journeyman Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte. Both of those fighters have seen better days with their career, and yet Fury fought them anyway, and the UK fans loved those fights.

“Right now, the only heavyweight championship fight that I’m looking at is Tyson and Oleksandr Usyk,” said Arum.

Usyk could turn the Fury fight into the equivalent of Waterloo for him and Arum. If that happens, Arum must decide whether it’s worth putting Fury back in with Usyk or forget about it and head for the Joshua fight.
