Conor McGregor goes back on his word by breaking promise hours after making vow

Conor McGregor’s vows to engage only with positivity on social media and put an end to his feud with Paul McGrath lasted just a few hours as he returned to his old ways.

Former two-weight world champion McGregor has spent the last few days sending bitter and aggressive Twitter messages to legendary Irish footballer McGrath, as well as comedian and radio host PJ Gallagher. He even challenged the pair to a boxing match, and threatened to make a visit to McGrath’s son in one particularly nasty exchange.

But last night he decided to take a different tact, jokingly admitting defeat in his feud with Gallagher and McGrath in a video where he boarded his private jet, before declaring he would only engage with positive messages. He deleted both posts, and within hours was responding to a message mocking him and saying that he doesn’t represent Ireland.

“I’ve decided from now to engage only with positivity and support on this platform,” McGregor wrote yesterday evening. “There is no point to engage in any sort of response to little wimpy cryba’s and old man farmer beater alcos and his little offspring bottler son. F*** the lot of the. Back to the gaff, it’s a park.”

However, just this morning a follower tweeted “Conor is a street kid. He has no worldliness about him. A pimp. Guy who did well and does nothing positive with his stature or wealth. Just gloats about it and plays the role of a pimp. Plain and simple. Thankfully, Ireland is NOT him.” McGregor responded, breaking his promise, by jokingly quoting 50 Cent’s song P.I.M.P.

He then proceeded to make another classless tweet about McGrath, writing: “Ooh aah Paul McGrath he bet a farmer round and robbed his car, now he’s barred from Enniscorthy as well Crumlin’s Gate Bar.” He claimed the tweet was a joke, adding: “Ah I’m only buzzing I prob takin’ it too far but it’s only banter McGrath stick on the kettle we have a cup of cha. Ladada it’s the motherf***in’ D O double G!”

When a fan noted that he had gone way beyond “too fair”, he replied: “I’m a scorched earth type of a m*********er if you try to come at me or label me insultingly. I do more than all of these combined for the land that I grace. You wanna come at me prepared to be set on fire. Let it be known. I blaze.”

During his latest outburst, which has lasted since the weekend with a series of deleted tweets, McGregor has made fun of Gallagher for speaking about his mental health struggles, and McGrath’s battle with alcoholism. Last year, Gallagher was admitted to a mental health facility in Dublin, and McGrath has been open about his drinking issues for years since retiring from football.
