World No 77 Kamil Majchrzak has announced that he has failed a doping test. Majchrzak, 26, provided two samples during October and November – both returned as positive for a prohibited substance. In his statement, Majchrzak insisted he never knowingly took a banned substance and vowed to clear his name.

“I have some incredibly sad and difficult news to share with everyone. I have tested positive in anti-doping controls during October and November 2022. Firstly, I have never, ever, knowingly taken any banned substance.

At this moment I have no idea what has happened and this is the biggest shock. I have started the most difficult fight of my life – the fight to prove my innocence and to return to the sport I love,” Majchrzak said in his statement.

Majchrzak issued a provisional suspension

The ITIA also released a statement, in which they announced that Majchrzak failed a doping test. Also, the ITIA confirmed that Majchrzak has been provisionally suspended. “Majchrzak, who had an ATP ranking of 78 at the time of being tested, provided samples whilst competing at three events – the Sofia Open in September, Japan Open in October and the FILA Open Seoul Challenger in October.

The samples from each of these tests were split into A and B samples and the subsequent analysis of the A samples found that: One sample contained SARM S-22 and a metabolite of LGD-4033. Two samples contained SARM S-22 and metabolites of a PPARδ agonist,” the ITIA’s statement read.

Majchrzak signed up to represent at the inaugural United Cup at the start of the 2023 season. Now, it seems unlikely that Majchrzak will be able to join Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz in representing Poland at the United Cup. It remains to be seen if Majchrzak can clear his name and return to competing on the pro level in the near future.
