Boxing Results: Teofimo Lopez Wins A Split Decision Over Sandor Martin!

By Ken Hissner: At Madison Square Garden, New York City Saturday over ESPN and ESPN+ in the Main Event former WBO, WBA and IBF Lightweight champion and current WBO International and NABF Super Lightweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez won a disputed split decision over WBA International champion Sandor “Arrasandor” Martin.

In the co-feature unbeaten heavyweight Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson scored his thirteenth straight stoppage over Jerry Forrest in two rounds.

In the Main Event former Lightweight and current WBO Int’l champ and WBO No. 1 ranked Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez, 18-1 (13), #139 ¼, of Brooklyn, NY, won a disputed split decision over WBA Int’l champ and WBO No. 5 ranked southpaw Sandor “Arrasandor” Martin, 40-3 (13), #139 ¾, of Barcelona, SP, over 10 rounds.

In the first round a clash of heads caused a small cut on the nose of Martin. In the second round Martin dropped Lopez for an 8-count face forward to his knees to the canvas with a right hook to the top of the head from Referee Ricky Gonzalez early in the first minute of the round. Near the end of the round the nose of Martin started to bleed.

In the fourth rounds first minute Martin landed a lead left to the chin of Lopez. Lopez continued to come forward with his left to his side wide open for a straight left. Lopez can’t seem to stop the jab of Martin who keeps a step ahead of Lopez. By the end of the round the nose of Martin is cut and blood flowing out of his nose that may be broken.

In the fifth round Lopez continued to chase without cutting off the ring. At the end of the round the illusive Martin landed the final punch. In the sixth round Lopez continues trying to knock down the jab of Martin that continues to get in. Martin has that step back lead left that continues to annoy Lopez and then stay a step ahead of him.

In a clinch Martin hit Lopez in the back of the head getting a warning from Referee Gonzalez.

In the seventh round Lopez missed a right and fell to the canvas ruled a slip. Martin continues being a step ahead of the plodding Lopez again landing the final punch of the round. In the eighth round Lopez at the end of the round landed several rights to the body and chin of Martin.

In the ninth round Lopez continues to have his lead right fall short as Martin moves around the ring too fast for him. In the tenth and final rounds halfway point Martin landed a solid jab to the chin stopping Lopez in his tracks. Lopez landed one of his few rights to the chin as Martin started celebrating in the final seconds of the bout.

Scores were 95-94 Martin, 96-93 Lopez and 97-92 Lopez with this writer 96-93 Martin.

In the co-feature heavyweight prospect Jared “The Real Big Baby”, 13-0 (13), #239, of Houston, TX, and Toledo, OH, kept his knockout streak going in stopping southpaw Jerry “The Slugger” Forrest, 26-6-2 (20), #228 ¼, of Newport News, VA, at 1:34 of the second round of a scheduled 10.

In the first round Forrest landed power punches almost immediately to the chin of Anderson. By the final minute Anderson had Forrest pinned in a corner with Referee David Fields taking a close look possibly calling a halt with a game Forrest doing enough to keep the fight going at the bell with over a hundred punches thrown by Anderson. The ring physician checked Forrest between rounds.

In the second round Anderson continued a brutal attack on Forrest causing the ring physician to start to enter the ring when Referee Fields finally called a halt.

2020 Olympic Silver Medalist “The Businessman” Keyshawn Davis, 7-0 (5), #134 ¾, of Norfolk, VA, shut out 3x world challenger Juan Carlos “Mini” Burgos, 35-7-3 (21), #134, of Tijuana, Baja California, MEX, 8 rounds, for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title.

In the first three rounds Davis used a good jab and body attack having Burgos on the defense for the most part. In the fourth through the sixth rounds Davis continues to have Burgos on the defense. At the end of the sixth round the ring physician checked on Burgos.

In the seventh rounds final minute a body shot from Davis hurt Burgos who is barely hanging in there. He landed over thirty power punches in the round. Burgos fought back enough not to have the fight stopped.

In the eighth and final rounds midway point Davis landed a four punch combination to the chin of Burgos who has never been stopped in his forty-four fight career and managed to get to the final bell against the highly predicted prospect in Davis.

The commentators were falling all over Davis who has at seven fights a lot of potential in a tough division. Referee was Steve Willis.

Scores were all 80-72 along with this writer.

WBO NABO Super Welter champ Xander Zayas, 15-0 (10), #153, of San Juan, PR, and Sunrise, FL, defeated Alexis “Laberinto” Salazar, 24-5 (9), #153 ¾, of Guadalajara, MEX and Norwalk, CA, over 8 rounds.

In the first round Zayas landed a left hook to the chin that drove Salazar into the ropes that possibly could have been called a knockdown by Referee Harvey Dock. In the second round Salazar was out landed until the final seconds when he landed the final punch of the round. In the third and fourth rounds Zayas continues to outwork Salazar but left him off the hook in the first round.

In the fifth through the seventh Salazar fought back well though well behind going into the final round. In the eighth and final round Zayas won the round and the fight but not in an impressive manor as hoped.
Scores 80-72 and 79-73 twice as did this writer.

Welter Delante “Tiger” Johnson, 7-0 (5), #141, of Cleveland, OH, stopped Mike “Bad Man” O’Hara, Jr., 16-2 (9), #141 ½, of Holbrook, MASS, at 1:29 of the fifth of an 8.

In the first three rounds the hand speed of Johnson made the difference out landing a game O’Hara. In the fourth round’s midway point O’Hara landed several combinations making it a close round. In the fifth round Johnson had O’Hara against the ropes taking too many punches as referee Kenny Willis stepped in to call a halt

Light Heavy southpaw Joseph ‘Mighty’ Ward, 8-1 (4) #174 ½, of Moate, IRE, defeated southpaw Frederic “French Revolution” Julan, 12-2 (10), #175 ¾, of Paris, FR and Brooklyn, NY, over 6 rounds.

In the first three rounds Ward held a slight edge in a back and forth match. In the last three rounds it went to Ward having the edge. Referee was David Fields.

Scores were 78-74 and 79-73 twice this writer 77-75.

Heavyweight Damian “Polish Hussar” Knyba, 10-0 (6), #245 ¾, of Wudzyn, POL, stopped southpaw Emilio “Edgardo” Salas, 7-4-1 (3), #217, of San Sebastian, PR, at 1:50 of the second round of a 6.

In the second round Knyba landed numerous right uppercuts knocking out the mouthpiece of Salas who had no answer for the power of Knyba forcing Referee Harvey Dock to wave off the mismatch.
