Iga Swiatek played an incredible season, but it’s already time to think about 2023. The Polish tennis player, in addition to having conquered and then largely consolidated the leadership in the WTA rankings, won eight titles including two Grand Slams, the Roland Garros and the Us Open, four WTA 1000 and two Wta 500 managing to be more often than not one step higher than her opponents.

The Pole is the woman to beat in 2023 and in an interview with her main sponsor Asics she spoke about the women tennis legends and her goals for next year. She told: “Excluding travel, I only had six and a half days of vacation.

I was at a resort where there wasn’t much to do, and it made me just lay down and do nothing. I really needed it, I I feel rejuvenated.” The Polish champion then talks about training and then tennis: “I had a total of 12 days without a racket.

I went home to meet my friends. It was enough time to rebuild my inner motivation. Going back on the court is not pleasant, you feel physical discomfort, your body hurts and you have to force yourself to work.” Swiatek then talked about who made the history of women’s tennis: “If I could face one of the legends of women’s tennis on one court, it would undoubtedly be Serena Williams.

Unfortunately I did not have the honor of playing against her. All of us let’s also look at Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova, who I met a year ago, they are amazing people.”

The Pole then took stock of 2022: “During this year I’ve learned a lot about myself.

The most important thing is that, regardless of the situation, I can find a solution that changes the course of the match. I can also manage the pressure of being number one: having all eyes on you and still playing with freedom.”

On what he would like to give to tennis in his country: “I always thought that tennis could be more popular in Poland. Since I’ve been successful, my goal has been to promote this sport. When I see people who have bought tickets and they want to see tennis, I try to make their day enjoyable.”

And finally on her 2023: “Before the season on grass courts, I won’t have high expectations. I will play a tournament before Wimbledon, to facilitate learning and gain more experience. I want to take advantage of my coach’s knowledge, who has many ideas on what can I change in my game.

Wiktorowski knows how to look at sport broadly and has a good eye. He sees a lot, analyzes well. After a full year of cooperation, I am very satisfied with how things have turned out.”
