Angelique Kerber addresses pregnancy, reveals post-pregnancy plans

Three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber says she is motivated to return to tennis after pregnancy as she wants to be an inspiration for “new moms.” Kerber, 34, announced her pregnancy in August. “When you talk now to them, it’s more intense listening to what they say.

We see the moms can come back, also winning big titles. And I hope I can also be one of them, inspiration for new moms and women to come back to doing their business,” Kerber told the WTA website.

Kerber: I’ll return when I’m fully fit

Kerber, a former world No 1, wants to return to tennis but she won’t be rushing her comeback.

Kerber, who will likely return to tennis at some point during the second half of the 2023 season, will return only when she feels fully fit to play again. “I don’t know what time or which tournament because I really want to take the time.

And when I come back, I want to come back 100 percent, fit again and feel good. This is the plan,” Kerber explained. When Kerber eventually returns to tennis, she won’t be the lone mom on the WTA Tour as Victoria Azarenka and Tatjana Maria are some of the active players that returned to tennis post-pregnancy.

“Take your time, enjoy the moment now. And then, they said I will feel when the time is there to come back. It’s better to take one month later than one month earlier,” Kerber revealed, when asked what’s the best advice she has gotten during pregnancy.

Kerber, who last competed at Wimbledon, has been occasionally playing recreational tennis with kids in recent times. “I play with the young children. Not so intense, but I’m there. This makes me actually also happy because I’m missing the tennis life. I’m also looking forward to the new life and what next year will bring for me,” Kerber concluded.
