The world of tennis has undergone a profound change in recent years. In the last two decades, tennis has been shaped by the dominance of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, but as the years go by, things are inevitably changing.

The well-known coach Patrick Mouratoglou published some videos on his social channels and clarified what is happening this season. This year we have seen the first victories in Masters 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments of very young tennis players like Holger Rune and Carlos Alcaraz.

The Norwegian surprisingly won the last Masters 1000 of the season in Bercy, but it was the Spanish phenomenon who surprised everyone with his victory at the US Open in New York. An extraordinary year ended with this Slam that took the Murcian to the top of the world and Alcaraz became the youngest number one in history.

Mouratoglou spoke of his growth, mentioning Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner in his generation and stating that, in any case, he was luckier than Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Mouratoglou recalled how Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic have won 33 of the 44 Grand Slam titles in the last 10 years and among the new generation only Medvedev won the Us Open in 2021.

This success was made even more remarkable as Daniil beat Novak Djokovic in the final, dashing the Serb’s hopes of winning a Grand Slam in the same year. Mouratoglou said: “The generation of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and tennis players his age have had bad luck.”

New details on Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz knows he is now a marked man due to his No 1 status and Grand Slam title so he will need to up his game next year. “The season is going to be difficult because I am going to start as the favourite and there is going to be a lot of pressure on me,” the 19-year-old said.

“But I try to keep the good part and see that all this does not go to my head. In the end, beating your idols is an incredible achievement. I try to take it normally and never forget that whatever happens in the future, I have to enjoy tennis and play at my level”.

The teenager’s meteoric rise has lead to comparisons with his fellow Spaniard, but Alcaraz is not keen on being likened to one of the best tennis players of all time.
