If men’s golf in 2022 was dominated by Rory McIlroy, women’s golf has a dominatrix. The queen is called Lydia Ko who, in Florida, has taken practically everything she had to take with the exception of number one in the Rolex ranking.

Lydia Ko, results

Let’s go in order. In Naples the New Zealander won, with a total of 271 strokes (65 66 70 70, -17), the CME Group Tour Championship, the last seasonal tournament of the LPGA Tour. With this affirmation, the 25-year-old of South Korean origin (she was born in Seoul) was named Rolex Player of the year, which is the best player of the top American women’s circuit.

And again: she was awarded the Vare Trophy (the second time in her career) for her best average score (68,988). In the history of the circuit, only the Swedish Annika Sorenstam in 2002 (68.70) had managed to do better. And that’s not all: the success in the CME Group Tour Championship allowed Lydia Ko to collect two million dollars in one fell swoop, which is the highest check in the history of the LPGA Tour.

fifth place in the ranking of earnings (16,695,357 dollars) in career on the circuit. Ko overtook Suzann Pettersen (14.837.579) and Lorena Ochoa (14.863.331). However, Ochoa still holds the box office record in a single season (4,364,994 in 2007, $ 591 more than Lydia Ko version 2022).

“It is difficult to make comparisons with the past. However, it is certain that this has been a special season, full of emotions and awards. I want to share it with my family and all the staff ”explains Ko. For the youngest, she plans to become number 1 in the world in 2015 (at the age of 17, 9 months and 8 days) still a feat.

In a show career with a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Games and a bronze medal in Tokyo. For her it is the 19th victory on the LPGA Tour. This umpteenth triumph also allowed her to win the women’s FedEx Cup. In twenty-two events in 2022, Ko has finished ahead of all three times.

Her success in Naples is a wire-to-wire triumph. Leading from the first to the last lap, she overtook the competition of Irish Leona Maguire, second with 273 (-15) ahead of Swede Anna Nordqvist, third with 274 (-14).
