Whyte Sounding Desperate For Anthony Joshua Rematch: “I’ll Fight Him Tomorrow”

By Scott Gilfoid: Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte is sounding increasingly desperate to get the Anthony Joshua fight in the first half of next year. Like Joshua, Whyte’s 11-year pro career is on the brink of collapse, and one more loss will likely finish him.

Despite never winning a world title, Whyte has made loads of money. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Dillian’s net worth is $7 million, an incredible amount for a guy whose best win was against 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin after coming back from a COVID-19 illness.

Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn has matched him against the unknown American fighter Jermaine Franklin this Saturday night, and if Dillian wins, he’s getting the rematch with Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) in early 2023.

As poor as Whyte is now, he might lose to Franklin because he seemingly can no longer take a punch. The slapper Tyson Fury knocked Whyte out in six rounds last April, and Povetkin blasted out Dillian in 2020.

Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) has lost two out of his last three fights and hardly deserves a lucrative fight against Joshua or any popular heavyweight in the division.

Dillian was knocked out in six rounds by WBC champion Tyson Fury, and now he’s facing the obscure fighter Franklin (21-0, 14 KOs), whose best name on his resume is journeyman Jerry Forrest.

Franklin barely beat Forrest by a 10-round split decision in 2019. Since that fight, Franklin has beaten 46-year-old Rodney Moore and 40-year-old Pavel Sour. As you can see, Franklin has been cherry-picked for Whyte to get a sure-thing victory this Saturday night to make sure that he gets the big payday against Joshua in the first quarter of 2023.

I’ll fight Joshua tomorrow. I’ll fight him for less money. We’re going to beat each other up,” said Dillian Whyte to DAZN Boxing about his desperate hopes of fighting a rematch against Anthony Joshua in the first quarter of 2023.

It would arguably be good for the sport if Franklin were to beat Whyte because a rematch between Dillian and Joshua is a poor one.

If Joshua needs a confidence booster, feed him to Joe Joyce or Daniel Dubois. At least if he were to beat one of them, it would do something to make him feel good. Beating a fighter like Whyte isn’t even sporting because his career looked finished at this point.

“It’s a fight that will make you run faster, make you diet. It’s a fight that will make me go to bed at seven o’clock every day. Wilder-Fury, they had their little thing. It was a good fight, win, lose or draw. Me and Joshua is the same.

“He fought Usyk for the unified, but he kept NOT fighting me. We just want to beat each other up,” said Whyte about Joshua. I’ll fight Joshua even when I’m 60. If they call us up at 60, I’ll come back to fight him.

“I really hope, but I don’t know where he is mentally,” said Dillian when asked if he hopes to one day have a trilogy with Joshua, which means he would need to fight him two more times.

“He’s done a lot, achieved a lot; he’s got a lot of finances and made his history. Who knows? I support the guy. He’s my enemy, but I support him, and he’s British. Anyone from Britain, I’ll support him,” said Whyte, talking about Joshua.

“Jamaican, I’ll support him. Those are my connections and my link between them three countries. I want to see my countryman do well,” said Whyte.

It’s understandable why Dillian is so desperate for the Joshua rematch now because if he doesn’t get the fight soon, what’s left of his sinking career will be finished off. As it is, it’s difficult to imagine boxing fans wanting to pay to see Joshua fight Whyte.
