World No 8 Andrey Rublev took a moment to show his appreciation for the Turin crowd that gave him the love and support that he “did not deserve.” This past week, Rublev competed at the ATP Finals in Turin. In his third ATP Finals appearance, Rublev finally made it past the group stage despite being handed a very tough group.
After coming out of the group that also featured Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Rublev fell short to Casper Ruud in the semifinal. “Torino thank you so much for all your love and support during the week that I didn’t deserve.
But what I felt this week with your kindness and support, shows me that I can be a better person and better player. It means more than a world to me. Thank you,” Rublev wrote on Twitter.

Rublev didn’t deliver against Ruud
On Saturday, Ruud saw off Rublev 6-2 6-4.
The key moment of the match happened in the fifth game of the first set, when Rublev missed out on consecutive game points. Rublev’s game then totally collapsed as Ruud won nine games in a row to open a 6-2 4-0 lead.
Rublev managed to get one break back in the second set but he couldn’t get back the second as Ruud managed to close out the match in two sets. “I think I started quite well, and then, I don’t know, Casper were just too good.
He played really well, really solid. When I lost my serve, I start to rush a bit. I was trying to play aggressive, rushing. I start to miss more and more. It’s tough to do anything when he has, I don’t know, almost 80% first serve serving 215.
It’s tough to do something. Then when the match was almost done, when I managed to relax a bit and I was keep playing aggressive, but it was too late. He was too good,” Rublev said after the loss.
