Boxing Results: Jaime Munguia Stays Unbeaten Defeating Gonzalo Coria To Go 41-0!

By Ken Hissner: At Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico Saturday over DAZN in the Main Event Fernando Beltran (Promociones Zanfer) and Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotions) presented in the Main Event former WBO 154 champ Mexico’s Jaime Munguia won his 41st in a row stopping Argentina’s Gonzalo Coria in the fourth round.

In the Main Event former WBO 154 champ Jaime Munguia, 41-0 (33), #159.8, of Tijuana, Baja California, southpaw Gonzalo Coria, 21-6 (8), #159.4, of Cordoba, ARG, at 2:32 of the fourth round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the second rounds final minute a right from Munguia on the chin and down went Coria for an 8-count from Referee Javier Pena. He got up and held enough to get to the bell. In the third rounds final twenty seconds a left to the body from Munguia and down went Coria for the count by referee Pena.

In the co-feature Super Fly Argi Cortes, 25-3-2 (10), #114.6, of Mexico City, MEX, came off the canvas twice to win a split decision over Erick “Habanerito” Lopez, 16-7-2 (10), #114.5, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MEX, over 10 action packed rounds.

Early in the second round a wild overhand right on he chin from Lopez caused a flash knockdown over Cortes as Referee Javier Pena gave him an 8-count. Cortes fought back well having an edge by the end of the round but losing it due to knockdown. In the third round Cortes came back well against former sparring partner Lopez who landed final punch a lunging left on the chin of Cortes.

In the fourth round both had their moments with taller Cortes having the edge. In the fifth round Cortes used his jab well avoiding wild swinging Lopez for the most part. In the sixth round a left on the shoulder by Lopez and down went Cortes for an 8-count by referee Pena. He fought back well but the knockdown cost him.

In the seventh round after half a minute Lopez lost a point on hitting behind the head by referee Pena. Cortes used his reach but Lopez never stopped attacking him. In the eighth rounds final minute both boxer’s slipped to the canvas half a minute apart. In the eighth and ninth rounds Cortes pulled away from a close fight do to the knockdowns scoring well.

In the tenth and final round Lopez came out knowing he might need a knockout and never stopped throwing wild punches while Cortes had answers to it countering well.

Scores were 95-92 Cortes, 96-91 Lopez and 95-92 for Cortes. This writer had it 95-92 Cortes.

In the opening bout Benito Sanchez, 16-6-3 (4), #130, of Jalisco, MEX, drew with late sub Jose Angel Garcia, 8-0-3 (7), #122.8, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MEX, over 10 action rounds.

In the first round late sub Garcia giving up quite a bit of weight came out the aggressor of the two for the most part having an edge though a bit of swelling under right eye midway. In the second round Garcia switched to southpaw and having another good round. In the third’s end of first minute Sanchez landed a solid right to the chin of Garcia.

Garcia took over in the middle minute while Sanchez came back in the final minute. Sanchez spent too much time against the ropes for the most part. Coming off a loss seven months ago at this same weight after starting career at 118# doesn’t seem natural for Sanchez.

In the fourth round Garcia went back to orthodox in a back and forth round with Sanchez making it close the end of four rounds. In the fifth round Garcia back to southpaw was getting hit by lead rights on chin by Sanchez. The final twenty seconds both landed well. In the sixth rounds halfway point Garcia got tape fixed and Sanchez boot tied.

In the final minute a right from Sanchez dropped Garcia almost without a count from Referee Javier Pena he got right up. Ref forgot to wipe gloves of Garcia. Good round for Sanchez.

In the seventh round Sanchez continued coming in low got hit by Garcia uppercuts. In the eighth round Sanchez started doing some showboating and paid the price from a flurry by Garcia. Sanchez came back well halfway through the round with headshots while Garcia worked the body.

In the ninth round the action near the end was the most in the final twenty seconds. In the tenth and final round Garcia the busier with Sanchez more accurate in a close fight at the end.

Scores were all 95-95 which is very unusual with this writer 96-94 for Garcia.

Feather Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza, 21-0 (18), #128.3 of Guadalajara, MEX, knocked out Orlando Garcia, 17-35 (31), #131.3, of Tlalchapa, MEX, at 2:44 of the first round of a scheduled 10.

In the first round the much taller by 9” Espinosa knocked out Garcia for the 31st knockout loss of his career.

Super Light Diego “Azabache” Torres, 16-0 (15), #139, of Zapopan, Jalisco, MEX, stopped late sub Hector “La Cobra” Osorio, 6-2-1 (1), #138.9, of Tlaxcala, MEX, at 0:19 of the fourth round of a scheduled 8 rounds.

In the first round the heavy underdog Osorio coming down to the lightest weight in five years held his own though countering from Torres had the edge. In the third round Torres landed quite a few left hooks and looked like he scored a knockdown near the end but got it waved off by Referee Javier Pena as a slip.

In the fourth round a right from Torres early in the first minute on the chin and down went Osorio for an 8-count. As he got up Torres was all over him dropping him a second time with a left hook to the chin as referee Pena waved it off immediately.
