Andrey Rublev responds to Stefanos Tsitsipas throwing shade on him

Andrey Rublev refused to get into a war of words with Stefanos Tsitsipas after the Greek threw shade on him following their performance. On Friday, Rublev defeated Tsitsipas 3-6 6-3 6-2 to clinch the last semifinal spot at the ATP Finals.

After the match, Tsitsipas openly said it was “a shame” that he lost because he was “the better player.” Also, Tsitsipas said Rublev beat him “with a few tools that he has.” Rublev respectfully responded when asked about Tsitsipas’ comments.

“I don’t know if I have few tools or no. If I go shot by shot, I think his backhand is not better than mine, his forehand is not better than mine, the speed serve is not better than mine. He’s faster and he plays much better in it.

But if we go shot by shot, I don’t think that. Obviously he’s the better player because he’s higher ranked and he achieved better results, it’s obvious, there is no doubt. But I don’t think I beat him because of few tools.

If you take our every match, we have tough battles,” Rublev explained, as quoted on Sportskeeda.

What exactly did Stefanos Tsitsipas say about Andrey Rublev?

By losing to Rublev, Tsitsipas didn’t make it past the group stage in Turin.

Seemingly, Tsitsipas wasn’t impressed by how Rublev defeated him. “I was serving well. I found the spots, you know? I mean, he’s a good returner. Nothing to take away from him. He played a lot of returns in. I tried to mix it up at the end.

I didn’t really feel threatened. I just wanted to try something new, to see if it might work and throw him off a little bit. Yeah, we had a very long game towards the end where I kept trying new things. I can say things were coming off the racquet pretty good from his side.

It’s a shame. I feel like the better player. I felt like I could do more with the ball today. I felt like I could just be much more creative. I don’t even have to say that. I think it’s quite obvious. But, yeah, he prevailed with the few tools that he has. He was able to really take advantage of them and win today,” Tsitsipas said after the match.
