Gervonta Davis To Fight Hector Luis Garcia On Jan.7th In Washington DC

By Craig Page: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will be defending his WBA secondary lightweight title in a tune-up fight against super featherweight Hector Luis Garcia on January 7th on SHOWTIME in Washington, DC.

This is an excellent match-up, a fight that is a 50-50 toss-up. Garcia is better skilled than Tank and comes from a superior amateur background. Skills-wise, Hector Garcia is on another level than Tank.

Of course, with Gervonta being the A-side, Garcia might need to school him the way he did Chriss Colbert for him to get the victory because there’s a lot of money that would be on the line for this fight. A loss for Tank Davis would ruin the mega-fight between him and Ryan Garcia on April 15th.

Gervonta Davis’ rival on January 7 in Washington DC will be Héctor Luis “El Androide” García. The Dominican is the current WBA Super Featherweight Champion,” said JuliusJulianis.

Julius Julianis is the first on the news of the 28-year-old Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) defending against the unbeaten 2016 Olympian Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs), who is coming off back-to-back wins over WBA super featherweight champion Roger Gutierrez and Chris Colbert.

PBC will kick themselves if Hector Garcia gives the often flawed Tank Davis a boxing lesson on January 7th.

With all the money at stake for the Ryan Garcia fight, it would make more sense to have Tank Davis fight Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in a rematch or match him against the tiny Gary Russell Jr from the featherweight division.

Although the 5’9″ Hector Luis Garcia campaigns at 130-lb, he’s HUGE for the division and is taller than the 5’5′ Tank Davis. Fighting at super featherweight has given Garcia an advantage over his smaller opposition, and he’ll be considerably bigger than Tank.

Garcia is a six-year professional from the Dominican Republic. Although Hector has an Olympic pedigree, he wasn’t well known in the United States until he defeated Colbert by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision last February. Garcia was far better than Colbert and made him look bad.

Tank’s management at PBC and Mayweather Promotions could be making a mistake matching him against Hector Garcia because this guy has the talent to expose the many flaws in his game.

We saw how Tank struggled in his fight against the unskilled novice Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and his match against the small slugger Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz before that.
