Daria Kasatkina jokes about her ‘so basic’ trip plans

Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina is planning a third trip to the Maldives as she jokingly admitted that her trip selection is “so basic.” Kasatkina, 25, enjoyed a very good 2022 season, which saw her qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time in her career.

While some players finished their seasons for a while now, Kasatkina will have a late finish because of her WTA Finals qualification. “Basic, I know, so basic,” Kasatkina said with a laugh, per Eurosport. “But I mean, in November, there is not many places you can go where you can, get a sunny and this lazy kind of vacation.

So Maldives is one of the options, which is in the very beautiful place, very calm”.

Kasatkina beat Cori Gauff for her first WTA Finals win

After losing to Iga Swiatek in her first-ever WTA Finals match, Kasatkina bounced back in her second match by beating Gauff 7-6 (6) 6-3 “It was tough.

I was nervous at the beginning. With the rhythm of the match, nerves disappear a little bit and start to be better. So I’m really happy to be in the next round, still alive,” Kasatkina said after clinching her first WTA Finals victory.

Also after beating Gauff, Kasatkina reflected on one of the things that make the WTA Finals a unique event. After losing to Swiatek, Kasatkina didn’t have to immediately pack her bags and leave the tournament, like it is usually the case when she loses during a tournament.

“Normally if you lost, you’re just like, ‘OK, the tournament is done,’ I pack my bags and I go to the airport. Here is completely different. I had to push myself to practice the next day like nothing happened and prepare for the next match.

That was interesting. I felt unusual, let’s say, but pretty happy how I handled the situation, which was quite new for me,” Kasatkina explained.
