Errol Spence Responds To Terence Crawford

By Chris Williams: Errol Spence Jr responded to Terence Crawford’s long social media rant on Wednesday night, refuting the things he complained about that led to him bailing from the negotiations for their mega-fight.

IBF/WBA/WBC welterweight champion Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) makes it clear that WBO strap holder Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) was “dragging” the negotiations out at the end because he was negotiating a fight with BLK Prime to fight #6 WBO contender David Avanesyan on December 10th on PPV in Omaha, Nebraska.

In other words, Crawford had already decided to walk away from the negotiations and was negotiating with BLK Prime for the Avanesyan fight without Spence knowing about it.

Obviously, Spence and his management at Premier Boxing Champions would have liked to have known that Crawford was in talks for the Avanesyan fight with BLK Prime because if they had, it would have allowed them to move on sooner to begin looking for an opponent.

Spence says that the issues that Crawford had that he feels destroyed the negotiations, “transparency on the revenues and expenses” for the contest. According to Errol, his management team had already said that they would show him this information.

Further, Spence points out Crawford’s talk about not having a “guarantee” for his purse for the fight, but he didn’t have a guarantee either. “Just a higher percentage.” So, neither fighter was getting a guaranteed purse.

For example, Spence fought former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and former IBF/WBC 147-lb champion ‘Showtime’  Shawn Porter when the two were at the top of their game.

When Crawford got around to fighting Brook & Porter, they were a shell of the fighters they’d been earlier when Spence beat both of them. Crawford got what was left of those two fighters after being soundly beaten by Spence.

Errol feels that he’s been the one doing hard work by beating fighter that Crawford eventually faced while they were still at the top of their game. Spence says Porter was “semi-retired,” and Kell Brook was “Over done” when Crawford fought them AFTER Errol had already beaten both guys.

Also, Crawford beat what was left of Amir Khan at the end of his career, as well as Yuriorkis Gamboa. Those guys were both done by the time Bud fought them.
