In particular, she took advantage of the missed last lap of her direct competitor, the American Ashlyn Johnson (+9), to win the gold medal, beating her by two points. After winning the bronze medal at the XXIV Deaflympics in Brazil at the age of 14 last May, the scratch golfer also took third place this week among the women, all categories combined, eight lengths behind the German winner Vanessa Girke.

The Hawaiian Islands are a federated state of the United States of America (the 50th and last state, in chronological order of establishment), and a volcanic archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean made up of eight main islands and many smaller islands, reefs and shoals.

The major islands are Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui and the island of Hawaii from northwest to southeast. The latter is the largest and is often called “The Big Island” to avoid confusion with the homonymous state.

Politically, therefore, the archipelago is included in the State of Hawaii, which has been part of the United States of America since 21 August 1959, and has Honolulu as its capital, located on the island of Oahu. The state’s coastline, approximately 1 210 km (750 miles) long, is the fourth longest in the US after those of Alaska, Florida and California.

[4] Hawaii is the 50th state of the United States of America and has jurisdiction over all islands in the archipelago with the exception of Midway Atoll, which is under direct federal control. Hawaii is the 43rd state by surface, the 40th by population, but the 13th most densely populated of the 50 states of the United States of America.

Like Alaska, it is not part of the so-called contiguous United States (almost 4,000 km from the American coast: the closest point is California) The nickname of the state is Aloha State (which takes up the typical Hawaiian greeting “aloha”), while the animal chosen as a symbol is the Hawaiian monk seal.

Although they are not real symbols, the musical instrument of the ukulele and the sport of surfing are also directly connected to Hawaii. Hawaii is one of the two states in the nation that do not adopt daylight saving time; the other is Arizona.

The warm tropical climate, the abundance of public beaches and ocean environments and active volcanoes make the archipelago a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists and volcanologists. Thanks to their position in the center of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii has received many influences, then mixed with the culture already present in the area, both from America and Asia, so much so that Hawaii is the only state with a community of Asian Americans.
