In a long interview, Yves Allegro wanted to pay tribute to his great friend Roger Federer. Allegro explained: “I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Roger Federer. Me, Marco Chiudinelli and Michael Lammer will never stop thanking him.

From my point of view, he is the greatest tennis player ever. his countless triumphs. Roger changed tennis and took it to a new dimension, a bit like Tiger Woods did in golf. We owe to him the increase in sponsors and prize pools, as well as the increased media attention.

Tennis has become so popular mostly thanks to Federer. He has made our sport much more mainstream than in the past and has changed the lives of many people in Switzerland and around the world. Few athletes in history have had an impact comparable to him.”

Roger will be part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup along with Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini.

Federer’s farewell to tennis

This weekend Roger Federer will officially say goodbye to tennis.

The Swiss will play the fifth edition of the Laver Cup, scheduled at the O2 Arena in London from 23 to 25 September. Although the King has never abandoned the desire to return to competition, he has had to give up in the face of the evidence.

The progress made in recent months is not enough to return to the highest levels, as revealed by its long-time trainer Pierre Paganini in a long interview with the newspaper ‘Blick’ The 20-time Grand Slam champion has not been able to play as and as much as he would have liked in the past two and a half years, thanks to a serious right knee injury.

The former ATP number 1 had tried a timid comeback in 2021, playing just 13 official matches and not going beyond the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The 41-year-old from Basel has already arrived in London and trained with Stefanos Tsitsipas, reflecting his desire to close the court.
