To improve his performance and aid his rise in Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Ibadan Golf Club-based (IGC) prodigy, Jubril Akande, has intensified his training ahead of the ninth Awa Ibraheem Junior Golf Championship.
The 13-year-old rising star, who has been in hot form, playing among adults and winning three consecutive weekly club kitties at IGC, with respectable scores, has said his dream is to post a good performance at the yearly cadet championship sponsored by golf enthusiast, Awa Ibraheem.
Speaking after a training session at IGC, Akande said he has been training hard ahead of championship, which is a key programme on the calendar of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF).
“I have increased my training schedule here and have been playing under the guidance of a professional golfer to gain more experience and improve my game, hoping to come out on top when this year’s Awa Ibraheem tournament gets underway.
“It will help me access the level of my improvement and gain more points that will qualify me into the world ranking category.
“It has always been an awesome experience for me playing along other kid golfers from the golf sections of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos; IBB International Golf, Abuja; Rosani Golf Club, Ekiti; Lamingo and Rayfield Golf Clubs in Jos; Oturkpo Golf Club; Ibom Golf Club; Abeokuta Golf Club; Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Port Harcourt Golf Club and others.
“I can’t wait to witness another edition again this year,” Akande noted.
Meanwhile, organisers of the yearly championship have announced October 21 and 22 as date for the event organised to mark the birthday of the sponsor (Awa Ibraheem) at the Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos State.
