Daria Saville confirmed that the injury that made her retire after the first game against Naomi Osaka at the Japan Open is in fact a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

According to Cleveland Clinic, “an ACL tear is a very common knee injury.

It can happen to athletes who play sports like football, basketball, soccer and volleyball, and to those who work physical jobs. There are surgical and nonsurgical treatments. Most people recover from an ACL tear within six to nine months.”

Andrea Petkovic was among the tennis stars that reacted to Saville’s injury. “Noooo. I’m so sorry, Dasha,” wrote Petkovic on Twitter. After getting support from the tennis world, Saville reacted on Twitter.

“Don’t worry about me btw. I feel bad that everyone is so worried. I’m ok I promise. It’s just shit luck,” wrote Daria.

Naomi Osaka got scared about Daria’s injury

Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka confessed that she “got really scared” after seeing that Daria Saville was in great pain because of what looked to be a severe left knee injury.

In the second game of their Tokyo first-round match, Saville crushed onto the court after a forehand and was heard screaming “my knee.” After realizing that Saville was down severely injured, Osaka rushed across the other side of the net to assist Saville.

After receiving a medical intervention, Saville retired the match. “I thought that she was just yelling because she thought her forehand was out, then I realised that she was yelling because she was in pain,” Osaka said.

“Then I got really scared because I felt like as athletes we have a pretty high pain tolerance. It seemed really bad”.
