After the retirement of one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Serena Williams, a moment that was in the air also came in the men: Roger Federer said goodbye to the world of tennis. In a social post, the Swiss explained that his physical condition does not support him enough to resume his professional career, which saw his last match at Wimbledon 2021, with the defeat against Hubert Hurkacz.

A career studded with numerous records: from the number of victories to the Grand Slam victories, passing through the ATP ranking. Precisely on the world rankings, Roger Federer holds a record that no other tennis player can yet boast: 237 consecutive weeks as world number one.

Roger Federer made a super Ranking record: Djokovic destroyed

It was February 2, 2004 when the Swiss champion conquered the top of the ranking for the first time ever, the twenty-third in the history of tennis. The day after the victory of the Australian Open, won against Marta Safin, the first page of history and a domination was written, which would last until August 17, 2008.

For more than four years, the Swiss champion has never abandoned the throne he had won: in the meantime, two titles in Australia, four Wimbledon and three US Open; the latter two Grand Slams also won consecutively. A domination that ended when the remaining three members of what would later be the Fab Four fell into tennis and began to sow records too.

It was, in fact, Rafael Nadal who took away the scepter that he had held in his hand for these four years: on August 18, 2008, it was the Spaniard who became the new number one. None of them managed to do better than Roger Federer: Djokovic, who has the record for the number of weeks as number one, stopped at 122 consecutive, between 2014 and 2016.

Nadal, on the other hand, did not have a excellent relationship with the leadership of the ranking: a love at times, but never really continuous. Andy Murray, on the other hand, took the leadership only once: 41 consecutive weeks and then nothing more.
