Novak Djokovic’s uncle Goran has hinted that the 21-time Grand Slam champion may play for five to six more years. Djokovic, 35, has missed two Grand Slams this season – the Australian Open and US Open. Djokovic went through probably the most challenging period of his life earlier this year, when he put in detention and ultimately deported from Australia.

“The ordeal he went through this year in Australia only extended his career. Instead of maybe retiring from tennis in three or four years, his career has been extended for five, or six years. He is resting his body,” Goran Djokovic told The Pavlovic Today.

Djokovic ‘set’ for the 2023 Australian Open

Over the weekend, Australia media reported that Djokovic’s three-year of entering the country is set to be lifted. During Wimbledon, Djokovic said he was hoping Australia would rescind his ban and allow him to compete at the Australian Open next January.

After Djokovic was deported from Australia, samo thought that he would never again play there. But Djokovic has no hard feelings toward Australia. “I will always remember all the nice things that happened for me in Melbourne.

I had a lot of professional and personal beautiful moments there. Despite all this, I have a great connection with Australia. Results that I had in Melbourne show you how I feel when I go there. Everything that has happened this year was totally unexpected.

It will be hard to forget, but I want to come back to Australia in the future and to play on Rod Laver Arena again,” Djokovic said earlier this year. Djokovic is a record nine-time Australian Open champion. Had Djokovic been allowed to compete at the Australian Open earlier this year, he would have been targeting to win his fourth consecutive title at Melbourne Park. In the absence of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal won his second Australian Open title.
