Nick Kyrgios to Carlos Alcaraz: “I told you!”

Carlos Alcaraz surprises everyone once again: winning the first Grand Slam title and conquering the top of the ranking. At 19, the Spanish tennis player is among the youngest to raise a Grand Slam trophy and the youngest number one in the world: thanks to a four-set victory in the final against Casper Ruud in the US Open final.

A result that culminates a season in sharp growth: the new Grand Slam champion had started the year as number 31 in the world and the quarter-finals at the US Open as the highest milestone in a Grand Slam. If the climb to the top of the ranking seemed something within reach of Carlos Alcaraz, who has increased his position over the months, the Grand Slam goal still seemed a difficult goal to achieve.

His main achievement had come at the last Roland Garros, where he won the quarter-finals, losing to Alexander Zverev; in the other two Grand Slams, however, the path was interrupted in both cases in the fourth round.

Carlos Alcaraz’s anecdote

Predicting the victory of the Slam title, therefore, was not easy: yet, someone has hit the bet.

Eurosport had asked on social media who would be the candidate for the US Open title, including several profiles, including that of Carlos Alcaraz. To indicate the Spaniard as the candidate winner was Nick Kyrgios, who had put it in black and white in an Instagram story.

In the post-victory press conference, the Spaniard was reminded of this prediction made by Kyrgios before the tournament. Thus, the winner of the US Open recounted the funny message that the Australian sent him. Nick explained: “I’m honest, I checked the private messages on Instagram.

I saw the message from Nick Kyrgios. I didn’t take the whole message, but I read: I told you!” In these hours Alcaraz has released various interviews to the Iberian media, from RTVE to the Efe Agency, without forgetting ABC and Antenna 3 Sport.

The Spaniard is really very ambitious, here are his words: “I reached a goal very quickly, but it’s time to set new goals. I will continue to work to be at the top as long as possible. Honestly, I’m still not aware of what I’ve done and the impact I’ve had.

I want to go to Spain and see all my people, I want to see with my own eyes what is happening.”
