Lionel Messi bags pair of assists in comfortable win

Paris Saint-Germain returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 on Wednesday night following their 1-1 draw with rivals Monaco at the weekend.

Toulouse were the unfortunate side to face the wrath of the champions, who had scored 17 times in their first three league games of the season alone prior to the Monaco game.

It wasn’t quite a thrashing to match those games against Clermont, Montpellier or Lille, but Christophe Galtier’s team still cruised to a 3-0 victory at Stadium de Toulouse.

PSG dominated possession and outgunned their opponents in the attacking third, racking up the attempts on goal. It took until the 37th minute for the breakthrough to come when Neymar fired in low from the middle of the penalty area.

Kylian Mbappe doubled that lead early in the second half, scoring from an almost identical position at the other end of the pitch. Lionel Messi assisted both of them.

Gianluigi Donnarumma still had to make seven saves overall to keep Toulouse out and preserve his clean sheet, before Juan Bernat wrapped things with PSG’s third goal from a narrow angle late on.

The Ligue 1 race continues to remain tight at this early stage of the season. PSG have taken 13 points from a possible 15 so far, but so too have Lens and Marseille after both have put together three consecutive wins over the last couple of weeks.

Next up for PSG is a trip to Nantes on Saturday, before the Champions League group stage begins with the visit of Juventus to the French capital just three days later.
