Leylah Fernandez reveals she absolutely enjoys spending time with her family on the beach when she has a day off. In an interview with the WTA, Fernandez was asked to reveal what she enjoys doing off the court. “I love, love, love going to the beach and to spend my days in the beach with my family,” Fernandez told the WTA.

Also, Fernandez was asked if she has any hidden talents. “I, unfortunately have no hidden talents. I would love to say that I’m a great singer, a great dancer, but that is a lie,” Fernandez said with a smile.

Fernandez reflects on her past 12 months

12 months ago, Fernandez drew attention to her game by reaching the US Open final ranked around No.

70 in the world. Over the last 12 months, Fernandez has had some bright moments, but also some devastating moments – like when she sustained a Grade 3 stress fracture at the French Open. But Fernandez is more than grateful for everything that has happened to her over the last year.

“I can’t help but reflect on this past year on the night before the US Open. What a whirlwind it has been. With tears of joy, heartbreak, determination, discipline, and growth, I wouldn’t change a second,” Fernandez said.

“If I could tell the 18-year-old girl last year sitting in her hotel room full of excitement to play tennis, that her life was about to change, she would have never expected this year. To my sponsors – your endless support means the world, and I’m so thankful to be on this journey with you all.

To my team – your hard work, patience, and love will never go unnoticed. And lastly to my family – who would I be without you all? You have taught me to be the woman I am today. My heart is full of gratitude for each and every one.”

Fernandez plays Oceane Dodin in the US Open first round.
