Approximately 18 hours before his opening match against Japanese Hijikata at the 2022 US Open edition, Rafael Nadal updated his health status through an Instagram post showing him having dinner with family and friends. “Fun dinner with my team and friends!

And… all good before the tournament starts,” Nadal wrote, additionally typing the ‘thankful’ and ‘flexed biceps’ emojis.

Nadal’s first round will take place on Arthur Ashe Stadium and his opponent will be wild card receiver Rinky Hijikata.

Rafael Nadal recently shared encouraging news

Besides his last update, Rafael Nadal had already confirmed he is in encouraging shape. Rafa returned to the practice court after a proper rest, but he still felt pain while serving, prompting him to cancel his trip to Montreal.

Nadal resumed to action in Cincinnati and experienced a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 loss to Borna Coric in two hours and 51 minutes. The Spaniard stated that he did not feel well in Cincinnati before traveling to New York and having a couple of good practice days.

“I’m careful while serving, but I have been practicing at high intensity. I’m happy with my level at the moment. I have played only one match after Wimbledon, but I have been training well for a couple of weeks.

I have played a couple of sets against Fritz, Kecmanovic and Davidovich Fokina, which helps. I was not ready to play at my best in Cincinnati, and I’m in a better position ahead of the US Open,” Rafael Nadal said.

Because Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal, and Dominic Thiem have not played a single match at the US Open since winning their titles but they will all compete in this year’s edition, the American Grand Slam will have three players defending their titles.

Medvedev won US Open last year, Thiem won in 2020, and Nadal won at Flushing Meadows in 2019. Related: A strange US Open: 3 ATP players will “defend” their titles
