Matteo Berrettini delivers funny response when asked if pinneaple belongs on pizza

Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini says pinneaple definitely does not belong on pizza and adds his heart hurts when he sees someone using pinneaple as a pizza topping. The Miami Open asked several ATP and WTA players whether pinneaple belonged on pizza.

Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up, had the best response. “Oh my God, look at my heart! It’s hurting. No,” Berrettini said.

Cori Gauff, who reached her first Grand Slam final at this past French Open, revealed she didn’t really like the idea of putting a pinneaple on pizza but her views have changed.

“I was a pineapple on pizza hater, and then, yeah, now I think it belongs,” Gauff revealed.

Berrettini has been struggling this summer on hard courts

Along with Novak Djokovic, Berrettini was considered as the top favorite for the Wimbledon title.

Then on the day of his first round match, Berrettini tested positive for COVID-19. Being forced to withdraw from Wimbledon hurt Berrettini a lot and he didn’t hide his disappointment in an Instagram post he sent out that day.

Berrettini has since played two tournaments – both times losing in the first round. After suffering a surprise defeat to Pablo Carreno Busta in the Montreal first round, Berrettini picked up another surprise defeat last week when he lost to Frances Tiafoe in the Cincinnati first round.

Speaking post-match, Tiafoe said that beating a quality player like Berrettini was something he needed. “I really just needed this. I know it’s a first-round match. But everyone knew why I needed this against a quality player, so it was big.

I know I’ve beaten a lot of these guys, but it hasn’t happened of late. So it’s one of those things where you’ve got to get over the hump. But I’m happy I get another chance to play again,” Tiafoe said. It remains to be seen how will Berrettini do at the US Open
