Rafael Nadal described Iga Swiatek’s play in 2022 as “unbelievable” and revealed he has exchanged a few test messages with the Polish tennis superstar.

Swiatek, who turned 21, is now the face of the women’s game but she is never shying away from speaking about her admiration for Nadal. Swiatek, who grew up idolizing Nadal, has been the most dominant tennis player this season, and many consider her to be an all-time great.

“I texted her a couple of times because it’s unbelievable the way she’s playing. When she’s playing well it’s very difficult to stop her, because her shots are a little bit different. A lot of power and she’s able to move well,” Nadal said of Swiatek, per Gaspar Ribeiro Lanca.

No. 3 in the world Rafael Nadal will not be crowned world number one on Monday. After returning from an abdominal injury, the Spaniard suffered an early Cincinnati loss, leaving Ohio with no points. Rafa was defeated 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 by Borna Coric in two hours and 51 minutes, his second consecutive defeat at this event after losing in the quarter-finals in 2017.

Borna is now 3-2 against Rafa in ATP matches, playing well and progressing to the last 16. Nadal was playing his first match since Wimbledon, and he appeared rusty. The Spaniard allowed the Croat to hit over 30 unreturned serves and 36 winners.

Nadal’s first serve was solid, but he struggled on the second and committed seven double faults. The entire match featured three break points, with one on each side in sets two and three. Related: ATP Cincinnati: Rafael Nadal loses to Borna Coric
