Rangers 2 – 2 PSV

Armando Obispo’s 78th-minute header ensured Rangers were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Champions League play-off with PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch side, who were given weekends off in the Eredivisie in order to prepare for the tie at Ibrox, took the lead when Ibrahim Sangare found the bottom corner from Jordan Teze’s pass (37).

But Rangers’ response was immediate as Antonio Colak collected James Tavernier’s ball to steer his shot beyond Walter Benitez (40).

In front of the watching Sir Alex Ferguson, Benitez then endured a Massimo Taibi moment – allowing Tom Lawrence’s speculative free-kick to squirm out of his gloves and spin behind him over the line in the Glasgow downpour (70).

PSV were the better side during the second period and deservedly will be on parity ahead of next week’s second leg after Obispo rose to head Cody Gakpo’s corner into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Rangers will need to be at their best if they are to see the Dutch side off, but the tie is wonderfully poised after this entertaining draw.
