Pablo Carreno Busta, 31, admitted that winning his first Masters title felt a bit surreal since he couldn’t clearly explain how he was feeling after winning Montreal. In the Montreal Masters final, Carreno Busta recovered from a set down to beat eighth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz 3-6 6-3 6-3.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be a Masters 1000 winner,” Carreno Busta said after winning the biggest title of his career, per the ATP website. “It’s the best title of my career for sure and I don’t know how I’m feeling in this moment.
I know that during all the week we worked very hard, also the weeks before. It’s very important to be very positive all the time. It’s not my best season this year. I lost some matches that probably other seasons I didn’t lose, but I just tried to continue believing in my team, in myself and in my game.”

Hurkacz claimed the first and lone break of the first set in the sixth game, before serving out for the opener in the ninth game. After losing the first set, Carreno Busta bounced back at the start of the second set by earning his first break in the second game.
Carreno Busta then held on to his serve the rest of the second set to force a decider. In the third set, Carreno Busta broke Hurkacz in the third and ninth games to complete a big comeback victory and collect his maiden Masters title.
“I lost the first set, just one break, but you know when you play against these kinds of players who have a really good serve it’s really tough to be there,” Carreno Busta reflected. “But I just continued believing because I know that I was playing better and better.
I tried to be aggressive with my serves and I could make two breaks, enough to be a winner.” Carreno Busta now plays Miomir Kecmanovic in this week’s Cincinnati Masters first round.
