John Isner says the US Open will be “quite a scene” when Serena Williams kicks off her final tournament. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, revealed this week that she intends to retire from professional tennis at the upcoming US Open.
Williams captured her first Grand Slam singles title at the US Open in 1999. As expected, Williams picked the US Open as the tournament where she wants to end her stunning career. “The US Open will be quite a scene this year as we say goodbye to the (GOAT emoji).

Isner, Belinda Bencic expect an electric crowd to stand behind Williams
On Wednesday, Williams concluded her last campaign in Canada after suffering a 6-2 6-4 loss to Bencic in the Toronto second round.
The Toronto crowd stood behind Williams but Bencic was able to keep her focus and play her game. After beating Williams, Bencic admitted it wasn’t easy playing the 23-time Grand Slam champion and said “good luck to everyone who has to play her at the US Open.”
“In a way with her it feels almost like I’m star struck every time I see her,” Bencic said. “So it’s difficult to play her. It’s difficult to kind of put that aside and just like focus on the match.
Because I feel like I just don’t know how I then play because I feel like I’m paralyzed a little bit just like watching her. The crowd was incredible tonight. Just being part of that whole thing, it’s just really very special for me as well and for her.
And I think US Open it’s going to be even more special. So good luck to everyone who has to play her.” Williams has two more tournaments on her schedule as she is also set to play at next week’s WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati.
